Microsoft Cuts Price on Xbox 360 Models

One week after its rival Sony slashed $100 from the retail price of the PlayStation 3, Microsoft is following suit with its Xbox 360 Elite and Pro models, dropping the retail prices by $100 and $50, respectively, starting Aug. 28.

The Elite model now has a price tag of $300, the Pro $250. The entry-level Arcade remains at $200.

“With the holiday season right around the corner, it’s already time to start looking for entertainment and gifts that everyone will enjoy,” said Shane Kim, corporate VP of strategy and business development for Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business. “If you’re looking for deep experiences that don’t require deep pockets, now is the time to purchase an Xbox 360.

“We’ve got the best games, a vast library of TV shows and movies, new music experiences, more ways to connect friends and family, and so much more on the horizon including ‘Project Natal’ — no controller required.”

Microsoft also said that starting this fall it will add Twitter and Facebook capabilities to the gaming system.
