More Movie Discs Up Universal Q3 Income

Increased number of movies released on disc (DVD and Blu-ray) contributed to Universal Studios reporting third-quarter (ended Sept. 30) operating income of $72 million, up 33% from operating income of $54 million during the previous-year period.

Universal, which includes Universal Studios Home Entertainment, saw revenue reach nearly $1.4 billion, which was a 24% improvement from revenue of $1 billion last year, according to financial statements released by parent Comcast Corp.

Top performing theatrical titles in the quarter included adult comedy Ted and The Bourne Legacy reboot.
