'Sucker Punch’ Tops Sales Chart Again13 Jul, 2011 By: John Latchem
A dearth of strong new releases the week ended July 10 helped keep Warner Home Video’s Sucker Punch atop the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart for a second consecutive week.
Warner held the top three spots on the First Alert chart, which tracks overall disc sales, with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 jumping up to No. 2, and The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy — Extended Edition dropping a slot to No. 3.
The “Rings” boxed set, however, did manage to repeat atop Nielsen’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart, with Sucker Punch again at No. 2
Magnolia’s 13 Assassins fared best among new releases, at No. 7 on First Alert and No. 3 on the Blu-ray chart.
Other new releases in the overall top 20 include Universal’s TV DVD Eureka: Season 4.0 at No. 15 and Magnolia’s Hobo With a Shotgun at No. 17.
Hobo, with 58.8% of its sales coming on Blu-ray, landed at No. 7 on the Blu-ray chart. Assassins scored with 53.8% of its sales on the high-def format.
With most of the major new releases the past few weeks being from studios imposing 28-day embargoes to Redbox and Netflix, Sony Pictures’ Just Go With It moved back into the top spot on Home Media Magazine’s weekly rental chart in its fifth week on shelves. The Adam Sandler comedy has been the top rental twice in that span and has yet to finish below No. 3.
Universal’s Sanctum, coming off its 28-day holdback, rose to No. 5 on the rental chart.
