Steve Nickerson Named Millennium Entertainment President1 Dec, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Veteran home entertainment executive Steve Nickerson has been named president of independent distributor Millennium Entertainment.
Nickerson, who most recently headed home entertainment for “Twilight Saga” studio Summit Entertainment, until acquired by Lionsgate, reports to CEO Bill Lee in Los Angeles. At Summit Nickerson was responsible for development, sales, marketing and distribution of all home entertainment products, helping the studio rack up more than $1 billion in net sales in less than four years.
Nickerson will oversee sales, marketing and distribution of theatrical and home entertainment, according to The Wrap, which first reported the hiring.
A graduate of Stanford University, Nickerson worked at Toshiba America for the launch of DVD and then joined Warner Home Video to help the studio formulate a high-definition disc strategy, including spearheading the short-lived HD DVD format. He joined Summit in 2007 and is credited with helping the studio launch the successful “Twilight” franchise at retail.
Notably, Nickerson worked with major retailers to launch exclusive packaged media releases of “Twilight,” and introduced actors from the then unknown vampire franchise at the 2007 Entertainment Merchants Association confab in Las Vegas.
Nickerson has also served as VP of sales and marketing for TV and home appliances at Samsung Electronics America.
““In the past two years we’ve grown tremendously as an organization and enjoyed wonderful successes,” Lee said. “As an aspect of our growth and success we must expand our executive team and streamline operations. Steve joins Millennium having a proven track record and a true understanding of every aspect of our business. His knowledge and vast experience will be great assets, and I look forward to working with him as the company moves into its next phase.”
Lee founded Millennium in 2010. Recent releases included Richard Linklater’s Bernie (starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey); The Paperboy, with Zach Efron; and Stolen, with Nicolas Cage. It will release So Undercover, with Miley Cyrus, on DVD, Blu-ray Disc and video-on-demand next February.
