Hulu Launches Updated Online Video Player

23 Jul, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Hulu has bowed an updated Web video player that allows users for the first time to rewind 10-second increments of programming, in addition to reminding viewers when they’ve paused a video for an extended period of time, among other features.

Hulu, which is co-owned by News Corp., Walt Disney Co. and NBC Universal, rolled out the changes to its player July 21, according to a company blog.

The online player also sports a chrome-less user-interface featuring closed captions, pop-out player, facial recognition and lower-resolution lighting controls located in one place on the home screen.

Another new feature, “Up Next,” allows the viewer to select the next episode of the current program, or a completely different show or movie in advance.

“We [also] select the best quality video for your bandwidth so you don’t have to worry about it,” Michelle Koh, senior user experience designer with Hulu, wrote on the blog.
