Warner Inks Deal for Six Heston Projects

6 Dec, 2010 By: Chris Tribbey

Warner Home Video has reached an agreement with Agamemnon Films that will give the stduio home video, VOD and digital download rights to six projects featuring the late Charlton Heston.

The four-film documentary Charlton Heston Presents the Bible, hosted by the Academy Award-winning actor, will be released March 29 to coincide with Easter. Genesis, The Story of Moses, Jesus of Nazareth and The Passion make up the four films, which were shot in the Holy Land and first produced for A&E Television. They’ve grossed nearly $75 million worldwide to date.

“I’m not a priest or a scholar. I’m a storyteller,” Heston once said of the series. “These are the greatest stories ever told.”

Fraser Heston and Charlton Heston founded Agamemnon Films in 1981.

“Charlton Heston was one of the most prominent actors and performers of our generation, and his great work is very much evident in this set of new titles, which Warner Home Video is proud to be releasing,” said Jeff Baker, EVP and GM of theatrical catalog for Warner Home Video.

Mother Lode and Antony and Cleopatra will also be released March 29, both starring and directed by Heston. The former is a suspense adventure co-starring Kim Basinger and the latter was a big-budget adaptation of a Shakespearean drama.

“These films were very close to my father’s heart, and I know how thrilled he would be to be able to bring them, in their fully restored versions with the latest DVD technology, to a wide audience,” Fraser Heston said. “Warner has produced and distributed many of both my father’s films and mine, and it’s good to be home.”
