Black Friday Site Touts Blu-ray Disc

With the annual post-Thanksgiving winter holiday shopping launch date approaching, a Black Friday website offers a primer on buying a Blu-ray Disc player
It was on the 2003 post-Thanksgiving Black Friday retail shopping holiday that Walmart underscored the arrival of the DVD player when it offered a unit for a then unheard price of $39 — setting off a frenzy among some consumers.
The retail behemoth did the same several years ago when it bowed a $79 Magnavox Blu-ray Disc player.
With the high-definition format accounting for a surge in consumer home entertainment spending in the third quarter, the website is offering a primer on why buying a BD player is a smart investment. The “Blu-ray/DVD Player Buying Guide” tackles the device based on various topics, such as brands, price, 3D capabilities, streaming services and more.
“DVD or Blu-ray player? In the long run, purchasing a Blu-ray player over a DVD player is the smart decision,” the post reads. “Not only can it also play DVDs, but the growing rise in popularity of Blu-ray discs over the past five years is indicative of the format overtaking DVDs as the dominant media.”
