Blockbuster Selling $49.99 Blu-ray Player With Subscription Plan8 Dec, 2011 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Blockbuster LLC Dec. 8 said it is selling a wireless Toshiba Blu-ray Disc player for $49.99 to consumers who sign up for either the by-mail Total Access or in-store Combo Pass subscription programs.
McKinney, Texas-based Blockbuster recently launched the Combo Pass, which allows subscribers to rent one DVD, Blu-ray Disc or video game out at a time. Total Access enables subs to rent moves and games by-mail and return in-store for free exchanges. Each plan costs $14.99 per month.
The Toshiba BD players, which are available in stores only while supplies last through Dec. 26, are included in new subscriptions only with a 12-month agreement.
Separately, Blockbuster Express is giving away $25,000 in cash and prizes — including a $5,000 grand prize — through the end of the year as part of winter holiday sweepstakes.
Blockbuster Express is hiding game tokens with special codes in select disc rentals. Entering the codes online at BlockbusterExpress.com enables contestants a chance to be one of 10 instant winners receiving $1,000 in cash, 100 winners receiving $100 in cash or 1,000 winners receiving a free movie rental.
All online entrants will eligible to win the $5,000 grand prize awarded in January.
Blockbuster Express is owned and operated by NCR Corp., through a license agreement with Blockbuster LLC.
