Disney to Bow 3D ‘Cars 2’ Video Game on PS330 Mar, 2011 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Disney Interactive Studios March 30 said it will launch a 3D edition of the upcoming Cars 2: The Video Game exclusively for the Sony PlayStation 3 console and playable on a 3DTV.
The game streets June 21, three days before the theatrical (and IMAX) release of Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2 on June 24.
Cars 2: The Video Game, which features 20 different Cars characters, expands beyond the movie’s storyline, allowing players to interact and become top spies at the international spy training center, C.H.R.O.M.E. (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage).
The game can accommodate up to four players competing against each other in 3D, utilizing a four-way split screen.
“The 3D effects will ratchet up game play in ways that will have fans’ hearts pounding when they embark on dangerous spy missions, while our innovative multiplayer with four simultaneous 3D ports bring a whole new dimension to PS3 gaming,” said John Blackburn, VP and GM of Avalanche Software, developer of Cars 2.
Released in 2006, Cars generated $426 million at the box office and more than $8 billion in global retail, including releases on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, games, books, toys and related license products.
