Toshiba to Use Rovi’s Total Guide

12 Jul, 2011 By: Chris Tribbey

Toshiba announced July 12 it had signed a multiyear agreement with Rovi to use Rovi’s Total Guide cable search platform in HDTVs, Blu-ray Disc players and mobile devices.

The agreement covers both the United States and Europe, and also gives Toshiba new interactive advertising capabilities for its connected consumer electronics, starting in the spring of 2012.

“Rovi has unique solutions and essential intellectual property that are critical in bringing a simplified entertainment experience to consumers looking to access digital content of all types from a variety of sources,” said Taro Hiyama, chief marketing executive of Toshiba’s digital products and services division.

Some Toshiba products already include Rovi’s RoxioNow entertainment application, as well as Rovi’s DivX video playback. Thomas Carson, EVP of sales and marketing for Rovi, said the new agreement was an extension of the two companies’ partnership.

“Our announcement today with Toshiba emphasizes the value and importance of Rovi technology and intellectual property to consumer electronics manufacturers globally,” he said.
