Rovi Launches New Guide for Mobile

2 Mar, 2011 By: Chris Tribbey

Cable service providers now have access to a Rovi media guide that connects and extends cable video content to tablets and smartphones.

The customizable TotalGuide xD allows for streaming, VOD and broadcast content to be moved from a cable service to an allowed mobile device, beginning with the iPad. More mobile devices will be added, Rovi said.

“We’re committed to providing consumers with access to the entertainment content they desire on any and all devices,” said Corey Ferengul, EVP of product for Rovi Corp. “As entertainment increasingly goes mobile via powerful tablet and smartphone devices, TotalGuide xD is the next step in our strategy to provide our MSO customers with innovative solutions that make their services stronger and the consumer experience the best and most current.”

The guide features a search engine, recommendations, social network connections via Facebook and Twitter, and DVR capabilities.

Pennsylvania-based cable provider Armstrong is the first to trial Rovi TotalGuide xD.
