Rovi Launches New Media Guide, TV Everywhere Solution

14 Jun, 2011 By: Chris Tribbey

Rovi Corp. June 14 used The Cable Show in Chicago to unveil two new set-top solutions: a TotalGuide media guide for legacy set-top boxes and a new Video Distribution Solution for service providers that allows cable subscribers to access TV and VOD content on PCs, tablets and smartphones.

Oregon’s BendBroadband and multi-system operator Armstrong in Pennsylvania already are adopting the TotalGuide media guide, Rovi said. The guide allows subscribers to search their favorite channels and browse by programs, celebrities, cast and credits.

“Roles for cable service providers are changing fast, and companies need to find new ways to remain competitive and offer consumers innovative solutions,” said Corey Ferengul, EVP of products at Rovi. “With Rovi TotalGuide for STBs and Web-enabled devices, we are excited to be offering cable providers a competitive, easy-to-deploy solution that infuses a new and fun way for consumers to find and consume television content.”

Rovi’s Video Distribution Solution will give service providers the ability to enable their subscribers to access content on a variety of connected devices, the company said.

“The Rovi Video Distribution Solution brings together a broad and unique set of entertainment technologies and cloud-based capabilities to help service providers accelerate deployment of ‘TV everywhere’ initiatives without significant new capital investment,” Ferengul said. “Coexisting with and enhancing legacy VOD systems, the Rovi Video Distribution Solution provides a scalable, self-managed solution for our customers to monetize TV entertainment beyond the living room and address subscriber demands for ubiquitous access.”
