RCA Bows First 4K UHD Roku Smart Televisions

Venerable television manufacturer RCA Nov. 2 announced the release of its branded 4K UHD RCA Roku TVs, featuring the Roku operating system. The 4K UHD RCA Roku TVs are available at Walmart.com and in stores, priced from $599.99.

The 4K UHD RCA Roku TV line includes a 65-inch model for $1,099, a 55-inch model ($699.99) and a 50-inch model ($599.99). The 4K TVs are the latest additions to the RCA Roku TV line, which launched this summer in 50-inch, 43-inch and 32-inch models, priced from $249.99.

In the United States, 4K UHD RCA Roku TV owners have access to more than 5,000 channels and 500,000 movies and TV episodes via Roku search across 500+ streaming channels ranked by price. Also included is The Roku Channel, which features hundreds of ad-supported movies with no subscription, login or fees.

“This is another step toward establishing our company as a leading provider of a full array of quality products featuring the newest technology at an excellent value,” Aaron Herzog, president of Display-Vu, an affiliate of Curtis International and RCA’s official television licensee, said in a statement.

Roku helped launch the subscription streaming video business model with Netflix in 2007, including easy-to-use user interface and search functionality.

The 4K UHD RCA Roku TVs will by the end of the year receive the Roku OS 8, including new feature Smart Guide, which shows over-the-air broadcast TV and streaming options together to help customers search for, find and discover entertainment.

Other new features allow for enhanced voice commands with Roku mobile app allowing a user to launch streaming channels, switch inputs or control their Roku TV; TV Everywhere single sign-on and updated 4K channel.

“Working with RCA on a 4K Ultra HD RCA Roku TV was a natural progression following the launch of the RCA Roku TV line earlier this year,” said Chas Smith, GM of Roku TV & players.
