Lionsgate Re-Ups Grindstone Production Deal20 Mar, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Lionsgate March 20 announced it has extended a multiyear production agreement with Grindstone Entertainment Group.
Santa Monica, Calif.-based Lionsgate co-produces and acquires more than 30 lower-budget movies a year from Grindstone, including most recently Empire State, starring Dwayne Johnson, and Frozen Ground, with Nicolas Cage and John Cusack.
Upcoming releases include The Prince, starring Bruce Willis, Cusack and Jason Patric, and Vice, with Willis, Thomas Jane and Ambyr Childers.
Indeed, Grindstone titles regularly contribute to Lionsgate’s home entertainment bottom line, both digitally and packaged media.
“They are an important part of the Lionsgate family and a key component of our slate,” Steve Beeks, co-COO and motion picture group president at Lionsgate, said in a statement. “We expect them to continue to serve as a reliable source of profitable films featuring world-class talent in the years to come and, as they continue to evolve as a label, we look forward to elevating our Grindstone relationship to the next level.”
