First season of acclaimed Netflix original series getting retail release May 13
Lionsgate will release the first season of hit Netflix original episodic series “Orange Is the New Black” on Blu-ray Disc (plus Digital HD UltraViolet), DVD (plus Digital UltraViolet) and Digital HD May 13.
Lionsgate produces the series for Netflix, while holding non-pay-TV distribution rights in separate markets, including overseas.
“Orange” follows engaged Brooklynite Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), whose wild past comes back to haunt her and results in her arrest and detention in a federal penitentiary. To pay her debt to society, Piper trades her New York life for an orange prison jumpsuit and finds unexpected conflict and camaraderie amid an eccentric group of inmates.
Schilling earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance, but lost out to Robin Wright, who won for her performance in another Netflix high-profile original, “House of Cards.”
Timed to the second-season premiere, the first-season disc includes all 13 episodes on either a three-disc Blu-ray set and four-DVD set. Each set includes four featurettes containing behind-the-scenes interviews with author Piper Kerman, series creator Jenji Kohan, and cast members, along with a gag reel and special episode commentaries with the producers.
Featurettes include “New Kid on the Cell Block,” “Mother Hen: Red Runs the Coup,” “It’s Tribal” and “Prison Rules.”
Episode commentary includes, “I Wasn't Ready” and “Can’t Fix Crazy,” with producers Kohan, Tara Herrmann and Mark Burley.
