PlayOn Software to Connect Web Video to CE Devices20 Aug, 2008 By: Chris Tribbey
A new software service is giving PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and HP MediaSmart TV owners a way to watch Internet video.
PlayOn, which launched the beta version of its software this week, currently supports CBS, YouTube, ESPN and Hulu, and plans on adding Netflix support down the line. A version for the Nintendo Wii is expected during the fourth quarter of this year.
Those who want to use the service must download the software to their Windows XP or Vista-supported PC and have their entertainment devices connected to the same router as their PC. The service works by pulling RSS feeds from Internet video content providers and funneling them via home-network systems to the supported device.
