Gaiam Vivendi to Distribute Jim Henson Company Titles

25 Oct, 2012 By: John Latchem

Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment has signed a multiyear agreement for physical and digital home entertainment rights to distribute content from The Jim Henson Company in the United States and Canada.

“This acquisition is an affirmation of our recent acquisition of Vivendi and focus on becoming the leading independent in non-theatrical branded entertainment,” said Bill Sondheim, president of Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment.

The deal kicks off in 2013 with a re-release of “Fraggle Rock” on DVD to mark the show’s yearlong 30th anniversary celebration, with new packaging and bonus content. GV will also re-release Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas, “The Hoobs” and “Animal Show With Stinky and Jake,” along with previously unreleased Henson series such as “Construction Site” and new productions such as “Doozers,” a “Fraggle Rock” spin-off aimed at preschoolers.

GV will roll out the Henson catalog digitally starting in December.

Jim Henson Company programs had previously been distributed by Lionsgate.
