DirecTV Names SVP of Digital Entertainment

30 Apr, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel

DirecTV April 30 named Tony Goncalves to the newly created position of SVP of digital entertainment products, reporting to Mike White, CEO of the El Segundo, Calif.-based No. 1 satellite TV operator.

DirecTV, similarly to Dish Network and cable operators, has aggressively sought to establish Internet-based digital properties with the intent of attracting and maintaining an existing subscriber base predicated on traditional bundled pay-TV channels.

The newly created Digital Entertainment Products team’s duties include strategies for entertainment initiatives across all mobile, tablet, Web, native apps, third-party devices and video on-demand platforms.

“As technology changes at a rapid pace, we must constantly challenge ourselves to think in new and creative ways to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” White said. “This new group will enable DirecTV to remain at the forefront of our industry.”

Goncalves joined DirecTV in 2007 and has held various positions in sales and product management. In his most recent role as SVP of product management, he was responsible for working closely with the satellite operator’s engineering group to deliver a roadmap for the company’s new products and services and oversaw the team responsible for generating over $4 billion in annual revenue in pay per view movies and events, sports packages and premium channels.
