‘Little Mermaid,’ ‘Pooh’ to Blu9 May, 2013 By: John Latchem
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has lined up two more of the studio’s animated classics for Blu-ray.
The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition arrives Oct. 1 (order date Aug. 20). The 1989 film, which is cited as the beginning of the Disney Renaissance of the 1990s, comes in three configurations: a 3D combo pack with a 3D disc, 2D Blu-ray, DVD digital copy and music download for $49.99; a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack with digital copy for $44.99; and a Blu-ray/DVD pack for $39.99.
In addition to classic DVD bonus material, extras include a new music video, and such featurettes as “The Real Little Mermaid: Live Action Reference Model,” “Part of Her World: Jodi Benson’s Voyage to New Fantasyland,” “Howard’s Lecture” and a deleted character profile. The disc also includes Disney Intermission content, which plays when the movie is paused.
Aug. 27 (order date July 16), Disney brings its 1977 anthology The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh to Blu-ray. The film was designed to connect three “Pooh” shorts that had been previously released: Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree (1966), Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day (1968) and Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too (1974).
New extras include Disney Intermission activities, a “Pooh Play-Along” and five “Mini Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” shorts: “If I Wasn’t So Small,” “Piglet’s Drawings,” “The Expedition,” “Geniuses” and “The Honey Song.” Classic DVD extras include a making-of featurette, a Carly Simon music video of the theme song and the 1983 short “A Day for Eeyore.”
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh will be available in the United States as a Blu-ray/DVD/digital copy combo pack at $36.99, or on DVD only at $26.99.
The new DVD includes just the “Geniuses” short and the music video.
