ABC is the first network to offer select programming via connected devices
The Walt Disney Co. July 1 reportedly is expanding coverage of its “Watch ABC” app to Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Raleigh-Durham, N.C.
Announced in May following launches in New York and Philadelphia, “Watch ABC” is the first TV Everywhere app offered by a major network whereby multichannel video program subscribers have access to primetime and select local affiliate programing on demand via connected devices.
“Watch ABC” users must subscribe to Cox Communications, Charter Communications, and AT&T U-verse to access the app.
The app, which is similar to HBO Go, represents Disney’s ongoing efforts to expand digital access to its TV programming, in addition to competing with Aereo TV, the subscription-based service that allows users to access over the air network programming via connected devices.
Time Warner-owned Turner Network is set to bow an online app this summer, with Fox eyeing a similar launch.
