‘Hobbit’ Doc Available Early on CinemaNow3 Mar, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
A behind the scenes documentary from Warner Home Video’s pending release, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is now available on Best Buy’s CinemaNow to consumers who pre-order the Blu-ray Disc Combo Pack with UltraViolet.
The 30-minute doc, “A Hobbit’s Tale, Part 1: The Journey Begins,” is available at www.BestBuy.com/Hobbit. The Blu-ray Combo Pack, which retails for $35.99, hits retail channels March 19.
“The Hobbit,” which stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage, among others, surpassed $1 billion at the global box office through March 3. The Peter Jackson-directed movie is only the 15th film in history to surpass the billion dollar threshold.
The film, in what Warner hopes is the start of a follow-up franchise to the successful “Harry Potter” movies, generated more than $37 million in 10 days at Chinese theaters. The movie has generated about $700 million in foreign ticket sales.
