Time Warner Cable Sheds 579K Video Subs in Q2

No. 2 cable operator also cites decline in transactional VOD


Time Warner Cable Aug. 1 reported a loss of 191,000 video subscribers in the second quarter (ended June 30) from the first quarter (ended March 31). The decline left the No. 2 cable operator with 11.7 million video subscribers.

Not highlighted in results was the fact TWC lost more than 579,000 video subscribers compared with the prior-year period when it had more than 12.2 million video subs.

New York-based TWC also cited a drop in transactional VOD movie rentals without elaborating.

Meanwhile, in the quarter the company announced new versions of its TWC TV app for the Roku streaming player, Samsung Smart TVs and Microsoft’s Xbox. The apps are designed to enable customers to watch repurposed video product on customer-owned devices.
