Home entertainment website TheDigitalBits.com Feb. 25 announced the winners of its 10th (semi) annual Bitsy Awards, honoring the top discs of 2012 as selected by site staff.
To maximize the number of winners, the chosen titles were limited to the top spot in just one category, according to site co-founder Bill Hunt.
Winning titles were:
Best New Release/Special Edition: Prometheus four-disc set (Fox)
Best Catalog Release (Post-1970): Jaws: Universal 100th Anniversary Edition (Universal)
Best Deep Catalog/Classic Release (Pre-1970): Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection (Universal)
Best Film Restoration: Lawrence of Arabia: 50th Anniversary Edition (Sony Pictures)
Best Box Set: Bond 50: Celebrating Five Decades of 007 (Fox/MGM)
Best TV Release: Star Trek: The Next Generation — Season One and Season Two Blu-rays (Paramount/CBS)
Best Documentary: Jiro Dreams of Sushi (Magnolia)
Best Music/Concert Release: The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine (Apple Corp.)
Best Blu-ray 3D Release: Hugo (Paramount)
Best Psychotronic/Cult Release(s): Scream Factory (Shout! Factory)
Most Unexpected Release: Stanley Kubrick’s Fear and Desire (Kino Lorber)
