Amazon-owned SVOD service gets international streaming rights to U.S. primetime shows unavailable on Netflix

Amazon-owned Lovefilm June 24 said it signed a multiyear licensing deal with CBS Studios International expanding its streaming rights to U.S. primetime and cable TV shows for subscribers in the United Kingdom and Germany.

Programs include “The Good Wife,” “Blue Bloods,” and Showtime Networks’ series “Nurse Jackie,” “Californication” and “Dexter.”

The deal also includes episodes from the original 1960’s “Star Trek” series starring William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, among others.

The agreement underscores ongoing efforts by CBS to cautiously license content to SVOD platforms provided the deals don’t interfere with the media giant’s primetime and syndication businesses. Indeed, CBS, with the exception of its agreement this summer with Amazon Prime for the upcoming “Under the Dome” midseason replacement series, does not offer programming that is still airing on broadcast TV to SVOD services.

"This is another example of the growing licensing opportunities available for CBS's world-class ontent in a dynamic global marketplace,” Armando Nuñez, president and CEO of CBS Global Distribution Group, said in a statement.

"The quality, quantity and diversity of what we can offer our members is absolutely fantastic, which is why we're quickly becoming the first
choice subscription service for TV fans,” Simon Morris, chief marketing officer at Lovefilm, said in a statement.
