Amazon: ‘The Lorax,’ ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Top Disc Sellers for Holidays27 Dec, 2012 By: Chris Tribbey
Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, The Dark Knight Rises Blu-ray/DVD combo and The Dark Knight Trilogy Blu-ray were the top disc sellers for the holidays at Amazon.com, while on Amazon Instant Video, Brave, The Campaign and The Dark Knight Rises were top sellers, the company reported.
Amazon said the cumulative weight of the “Bond 50” Blu-ray Disc sets purchased by Amazon customers this holiday season would be 800 times the weight of Daniel Craig (172 pounds), and that Amazon customers purchased enough HDTVs to cover the field of every NFL stadium.
Vizio’s 60-inch Razor LED Smart HDTV, Panasonic’s Viera 55-Inch 3D plasma TV and Samsung’s 32-Inch LED HDTV were among the top electronics sellers.
Amazon shared the results after being ranked No. 1 in customer satisfaction during the holiday season for the eighth straight year, according to the ForeSee annual Holiday E-Retail Satisfaction Index.
Other notable home entertainment sites on the list are Netflix (No. 21), Apple (No. 24), Barnes & Noble (No. 27), Sony Store (No. 31), Target (No. 32), Costco (No. 37), Disney Store (No. 38), Walmart (No. 47) and Best Buy (No. 48).
“At this point, Amazon has been dominant for so long and has such a history of focusing on the customer, its hard to imagine anyone else coming close,” said ForeSee CEO Larry Freed. “Companies should emulate Amazon’s focus on the customer, which is clearly linked to superior revenues over the years.”
Amazon had more than 26.5 million items ordered on its peak holiday shopping day (Nov. 26), and Christmas Day was the biggest day ever for Amazon downloads, with more than 23 million movies, TV shows, songs, books, apps and games downloaded.
“We are grateful to customers for once again ranking us at the top of the ForeSee customer satisfaction survey and for choosing to shop at Amazon this holiday,” said Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon.com. “On behalf of Amazon employees around the world, we wish everyone happy holidays and the very best for the coming year.”
