Vudu Pushing Digital Movie Cards at Walmart for the Holidays
27 Nov, 2017 By: Erik GruenwedelVudu.com has upped of branded digital movies via packaged-media SKU (“stock keeping unit”) on shelves exclusively at Walmart. The world’s largest retail star owns Vudu.
DVD/Blu-ray Disc movies have long included a Digital Copy, or cloud-based UltraViolet code redeemable online and playable on authenticated devices.
Now Vudu is promoting separate digital access available only in stores.
Vudu Digital Copy originated three years ago as “InstaWatch,” a platform Walmart designed to simplify the process getting access to digital versions of packaged-media movies.
The platform enabled a consumer of a DVD/Blu-ray movie purchased at Walmart to scan the store receipt through an app on a mobile phone to access (or watch) the digital file on Vudu.
A Vudu Digital Card includes a redemption code that is paired with the store receipt (activated at checkout) and can be streamed via any Vudu-enabled device.
Vudu claims its branded digital cards are typically available before a movie’s packaged-media retail street date.
