Vudu Coming to Apple TV

17 Aug, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Walmart’s transactional movie service, Vudu, reportedly will be available for the first time on Apple TV later this month. Vudu in March hinted it was working on an app for Apple TV. Currently, Vudu users have to employ Apple’s AirPlay protocol to stream videos.

The move adds Apple to Vudu’s network of about 180 compatible platforms, which include Blu-ray Disc players, Roku, Google Chromecast, Xbox, PlayStation, iOS and Android mobile devices, PCs and Macs.

With Apple reportedly looking to spend $1 billion on original content, including Vudu — and UltraViolet content — could enhance Apple’s appeal in the crowded streaming media device market.

Amazon Prime Video recently announced it would also be available on Apple TV later this year.
