Vubiquity Jan. 19 announced it is partnering with CubaNetwork, a new digital and linear cable platform distributing Cuban-related entertainment to the United States.
As a result of new U.S. rules relating to commerce with the communist country, Vubiquity has inked a deal with RTV Commercial of Cuba to facilitate exclusive programming from Havana in both English and Spanish. The programming will capture a love affair with classic American cars, salsa singers, inventive offerings in food, culture and night life, among other topics.
Vubiquity will provide all digital storefront management services to help CubaNetwork reach service providers and digital-first audiences.
"We're honored to support CubaNetwork with the launch of a new, in many ways, historic service. The ability to work together to bring what is extremely exclusive content produced in Cuba and previously not made available elsewhere along with new, topical content to be produced in country, is ground-breaking," Darcy Antonellis, CEO of Vubiquity, said in a statement.
Los Angeles-based Vubiquity said CubaNetwork would have access throughout Cuba and to its people with a local production location in Havana. The network would be the exclusive importer of library and new original series emanating from the island.
It added it would also co-produce content for Americans intrigued by the island's enduring fascination at a critical historical moment between the U.S. and Cuba.
"Right now, Cuba is the coolest, most compelling place on the planet,” Keith Bass, CEO of CubaNetwork, said in a statement.
