Over-the-top video platform gets first original series earmarked for children
Hulu Feb. 10 said it has picked up the first subscription streaming original animated preschool series, “Doozers,” from The Jim Henson Co. (“Dinosaur Train” and “Sid the Science Kid”) and DHX Media (“Yo Gabba Gabba” and “Johnny Test!”). The 52-episode Hulu Kids series, which encourages children to design and create, is inspired by characters from the Henson series “Fraggle Rock.”
“Doozers” is a Hulu Original Series for Hulu Kids — an ad-free platform for kids featuring current-season and past series such as “Fraggle Rock,” “Pokémon,” “SpongeBob SquarePants,” “Thomas and Friends” and “Caillou.”
The series revolves around four Doozer kids — Pod Squad, Spike, Molly Bolt, Flex and Daisy Wheel — who live at the edge of our world in the fantastical, modern and eco-friendly Doozer Creek. The Doozers put their ideas into action and change their dreams into reality.
The series attempts to inspire kids to have an “I can do it” attitude. “Doozers” features a curriculum based upon the so-called "science, technology, engineering, art, math" (STEAM) initiative.
"The series encourages kids to embrace their own creativity,” Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Co., said in a statement. “Our pod squad is right at home with Hulu Kids, because kids can learn from and spend time with these characters on-demand like never before.”
“Doozers” debuts on Hulu and Hulu Plus April 25.
