Amazon Giving Manchester-by-the-Sea Residents Free Prime Subscription

1 May, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Amazon May 1 announced it is giving all households in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass., a free one-year Prime membership and a three-pack of Wickedly Prime Popcorn.

The promotion is timed for the May 5 Amazon streaming video availability of Oscar-winning movie Manchester by the Sea, starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Williams, Kyle Chandler and Lucas Hedges.

Homeowners will receive an online code to claim the Prime membership (which includes Prime Video) and popcorn. The town has 5,136 residents, according to the 2010 census.

“We wanted customers in the town to enjoy popcorn and a movie on us,” Greg Hart, VP of Amazon Video, worldwide, said in a statement.

Lionsgate released Manchester by the Sea on disc and digital Feb. 21.

Earlier this year, Amazon Studios received seven Oscar nominations, with Manchester by the Sea winning two Oscars, with Affleck taking Best Actor and Kenneth Lonergan winning his first Oscar, for Best Original Screenplay. That made Prime Video the first streaming service to secure Academy Awards wins, in addition to a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for Iran's The Salesman.

In addition, Moonlight, the Academy Award winning film for Best Picture starring Mahershala Ali and directed by Barry Jenkins, will be added to Prime Video May 21.
