Amazon Prime Video Gets TNT Series 'Animal Kingdom'

9 Mar, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Amazon March 9 announced it has acquired exclusive rights to the first season of TNT’s “Animal Kingdom,” which will begin streaming on Prime Video April 30. The second season of the crime drama begins its broadcast run May 30.

The series centers on teenager Joshua "J" Cody, played by Finn Cole (“Peaky Blinders”), who moves in with his freewheeling relatives, including adopted son Barry “Baz” Brown (Scott Speedman) and estranged grandmother Janine “Smurf” Cody (Ellen Barkin), in their Southern California beach town after his mother dies of a heroin overdose.

The show is inspired by the award-winning 2010 Australian movie Animal Kingdom, that takes place in Melbourne and introduced U.S. audiences to future Golden Globe nominees Ben Mendelsohn (Netflix’s “Bloodline”), Joel Edgerton (Loving) and two-time Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook).

Animal Kingdom: The Complete First Season streets on DVD and Blu-ray Disc April 25 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
