Acorn TV, the British-centric subscription streaming service owned by RLJ Entertainment, beginning April 13 will stream the first episode of BBC thriller “The Driver,” starring David Morrissey (“The Walking Dead”). The three-part series, which concludes April 27, will also be released on DVD in June.

Morrissey stars as Vince McKee, a middle-aged nobody who accepts an offer to drive a taxi for a criminal gang in order to escape his turbulent home life. Created by screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst (“Accused,” “Shameless”) and Jim Poyser, the three-episode series also stars Ian Hart (“The Bridge,” Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) as McKee’s fresh-out-of-prison friend, Colin; Claudine Blakley (Pride & Prejudice) as McKee’s wife; and Colm Meaney (“Hell on Wheels,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”) as the ruthless gangster boss, the Horse.

“After featuring domestic premieres of several excellent period dramas, including April’s upcoming premiere of [the second season of ] 'A Place to Call Home,' we’re excited to bring our growing fan base of British drama and mystery lovers a first-rate thriller in “The Driver,’” Miguel Penella, CEO of RLJ Entertainment, said in a statement.

Showtime is currently remaking “Driver” into a U.S. drama series, adapted by “Justified” executive producer Taylor Elmore and also starring Morrissey.
