Best Buy Pushing Fitness DVDs in the New Year

The New Year typically sees a flurry of activity at fitness gyms and workout regimens as personal resolutions to live healthier following the winter holidays begin in earnest.
Best Buy is offering special deals on workout DVDs featuring Tracy Anderson and Jillian Michaels, among others, from Anchor Bay Entertainment and Lionsgate.
In specially marked point-of-purchase displays at the front of stores, the Minneapolis, Minn.-based consumer electronics retailer is offering 50% off a DVD when purchasing another disc at the $9.95 suggested retail price.
The fact Anchor Bay and Lionsgate share a POP display underscores the former’s rise in fitness home entertainment distribution.
Anchor Bay Entertainment held the No. 1 position in market share for fitness discs through the first half of the year, according to Nielsen.
Anchor Bay accounted for 36.5% of the market, with Gaiam in second with 34.9% and Lionsgate with 15.4%.
“We have more best-sellers in the top 20, the top 35 and the top 50 than any other studio in the category,” Bill Clark, president of Anchor Bay Entertainment, told Home Media Magazine last year.
