Walmart Selling $38 LG Blu-ray Disc Player Thanksgiving Evening12 Nov, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Retail behemoth’s streak of selling the lowest-priced Blu-ray Disc player during the Black Friday weekend continues
Walmart once again appears to have the lowest-priced Blu-ray Disc player for the upcoming Black Friday (Nov. 29) retail holiday, according to a sneak peek at the retail behemoth’s 40-page Black Friday ads.
The $38 LG Blu-ray player equals last year’s $38 BD player Walmart pushed on Black Friday — also manufactured by LG. The catch: The price discount is good for one hour only from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving evening (Nov. 28), with just one player allowed per customer.
Notably, the price beats the $39 DVD player Walmart unveiled 10 years ago on Black Friday — a price point that infamously led to consumer stampedes in select stores as well as national media attention.
DVD players shortly thereafter became the most successful consumer electronics product in history, and paved the way for the studio's lucrative packaged-media sellthrough market.
In addition, Walmart is selling more than 100 Blu-ray titles priced from $3.96, $6.96 and $9.96 each.
