Lionsgate to Distribute 'Power Rangers Samurai'22 Mar, 2012 By: John Latchem
Lionsgate has signed a deal to distribute Saban Brands' “Power Rangers Samurai,” the current incarnation of the long-running children’s action series. Under the multiyear agreement, Lionsgate obtains all DVD and Blu-ray rights, as well as multiple digital rights for “Power Rangers Samurai,” which has aired on Nickelodeon since 2011. The second season, “Power Rangers Super Samurai,” premiered in February.
The first releases under the deal, Power Rangers Samurai Vol. 1: The Team Unites and Power Rangers Samurai Vol. 2: A New Enemy, arrive on DVD and digital download June 19.
Lionsgate also acquired the distribution rights to two “Power Rangers” Christmas and Halloween specials, and a “Power Rangers” movie special.
Saban recently signed a deal with Shout! Factory to distribute other shows in its catalog, including the earlier “Power Rangers” series that aired from 1993 to 2009.
