Funimation Gives ‘Dragon Ball Z’ Blu-rays Another Go
11 Nov, 2013 By: Chris TribbeyAnime distributor Funimation Entertainment will begin releasing the popular action series “Dragon Ball Z” on Blu-ray Disc beginning Dec. 31, two years after canceling planned Blu-ray releases due to technical problems.
Funimation encountered problems with shot-by-shot reframing of the series from its native full screen to widescreen in 2011, and shelved the project until now. The series will be released in three sets, with the episode count for each release matching the original DVD releases. Audio tracks were remastered and the remastered video features a more vibrant color pallet, the company said.
“We want Dragon Ball Z to be a part of the HD experience,” said Gen Fukunaga, Funimation CEO and president. “We want people to see how much time and care has been taken to give them something similar to what is being animated today.”
Each season set will include new cast interviews, retrospectives and fan-made content.
