Snap Creative Produces Several 'Transformers' Retail Exclusives24 Sep, 2014 By: John Latchem
Paramount’s Sept. 30 blitz of Transformers: Age of Extinction Blu-rays and DVDs onto the retail scene will be accompanied by a lineup of exclusives produced by promotional firm Snap Creative, a frequent collaborator with the major studios on retail campaigns.
Amazon.com will bundle the Blu-ray combo pack (non-3D edition) with a statue of Optimus Prime riding Grimlock, priced at $119.99 but available via preorder for $79.99.
“Back on the first movie, an executive at Paramount called me and said he wanted to do a transforming DVD case.” Said Bill Howard, CEO of Snap Creative. “It had to look like a Transformer and be the same size as a regular case. Now we’re doing the 4.0.”
The latest package is styled after Optimus Prime’s new look in Age of Extinction.
“It has new features that make it cooler for sure, and we worked with Hasbro and digital assets directly from the movie,” Howard said.
Walmart offers a number of exclusives tied to Age of Extinction. One is an online exclusive Blu-ray combo pack in packaging designed to resemble Bumblebee’s head, offered at Walmart.com for $24.96. Fans can order the head on its own or with a deluxe Transformers action figure in a $44.92 bundle, a savings of $15.
For its physical stores, Walmart has a Blu-ray combo pack with a metal magnet and three exclusive figurines.
“For powerhouse franchises like ‘Transformers,’ we make a point of honoring the legacy of the franchise while also moving it forward in new and different ways,” Howard said. “There are groups of fans out there who just can’t wait to get their hands on these collectibles.”
Snap Creative also produced a Raphael statue that will be an Amazon exclusive with Paramount’s upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Blu-ray. Raphael was chosen as the subject of the exclusive after a fan vote.
