HBO and Cinemax Coming to PlayStation Vue

HBO Now bowing soon on PS3, PS4

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Time Warner-owned HBO and Cinemax Sept. 15 announced an agreement that will bring both premium channels to online TV platform PlayStation Vue — the first time as standalone entities without a mandatory pay-TV subscription.

“That means through PlayStation Vue, you’ll have the option to subscribe to HBO and Cinemax as standalone channels or add them to your existing PlayStation Vue plan,” Dwayne Benefield, VP, head of PS Vue, wrote in a blog.

Both HBO and Cinemax will be available for $15 each per month through Sony's PlayStation Vue.

In addition, HBO Now, the standalone SVOD app, will soon launch on PlayStation 3 and 4 consoles. Subscribers to HBO through PS Vue can access HBO Now on all supported devices at no extra charge.

It remains to be seen how this will impact HBO Go, the premium channel’s TV Everywhere app for authenticated pay-TV subscribers that launched on PS4 last year.
