Blockbuster Re-Launches Transactional VOD Service5 Feb, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Blockbuster LLC has re-booted Blockbuster On Demand, allowing users to stream new-release movies — not TV shows — to most Internet connected devices.
The updated app, which can be downloaded for free, now offers movies in high-definition and surround sound. The app can also be downloaded to Samsung Smart TVs and Blu-ray Disc players.
Titles rent from $3.99 in standard-definition to $4.99 in HD for a 24-hour window. The fees are comparable to Amazon Instant Video and iTunes. There is no monthly subscription fee.
Users must provide an email address, user name, password and credit card, which is billed only when renting a movie. Electronic sellthrough is currently not available.
