Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has acquired worldwide home entertainment rights to “Angry Birds Toons,” marking the first-ever release of the Rovio Entertainment series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD.

“‘Angry Birds’ is one of the most recognizable franchises in the world, and we’re thrilled to be the first to partner with Rovio to expand their product offering at retail through our category,” said Lexine Wong, senior EVP of worldwide marketing at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. “Fans of all ages will enjoy the animated adventures as an extension of the popular game.”

“Angry Birds Toons” centers on the characters and adventures from the popular game. Set on Piggie Island, the Red Bird and his fearless feathered friends band together to protect their eggs — and their futures — from the wily Bad Piggies.

Angry Birds Toons: Season One, Volume One, a 26-episode collection, will be available in stores worldwide on Blu-ray and DVD Dec. 3. Special features include “Meet the Characters” and “Meet the Flock” pods, three behind-the-scenes featurettes, a character art gallery, a special “Wreck the Halls” holiday episode and an Angry Birds Windows PC game.

Sony Pictures and Rovio will release a 3D “Angry Birds” film theatrically in 2016.
“With over a billion views of our cartoons through our games, we’ve been blown away by our fans’ response to our first animated series,” said Rachel Webber, VP of video with Rovio Entertainment. “We’re excited to bring even more content to our fans on DVD and deepen our partnership with Sony.”
