The Entertainment Merchants Association (EMA) April 13 announced its 2016 Independent Home Entertainment Awards winners during the Independent Product Market at the Marriott Marina del Rey in Marina del Rey, Calif.
Sellthrough Title of the Year from an Independent Studio went to Downton Abbey: Season 6 (PBS Distribution); Rental Title of the Year from an Independent Studio went to 99 Homes (Broad Green Pictures); Direct-to-Video/Limited Release Title of the Year from an Independent Studio went to The Babadook (Shout! Factory); and Documentary/Special Interest Title of the Year from an Independent Studio went to The Wolfpack (Magnolia Home Entertainment).
The Hall of Fame inductee, recognizing a title that continues to perform well year-after-year, was Well Go USA’s Ip Man 2.
“While the number of devices and platforms on which people can watch home video continues to proliferate and provide more viewing options and opportunities, quality content is still what drives our industry,” said Mark Fisher, EMA president and CEO. “These titles demonstrate the outstanding quality and breadth of product available from independent studios.”
EMA’s Home Entertainment Awards winners were selected from a list of nominations by a vote of EMA retail and distributor members. The nominations reflect the rental and sellthrough success of the title in both physical and digital formats.
