Projections: Not Much Competition for 'Batman v Superman'
15 Aug, 2016 By: John Latchem
A lack of significant new releases the week ending Aug. 14 could pave the way for another week atop disc sales for Warner's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which has taken the No. 1 spot for the previous three weeks.
The top new titles during the week were Lionsgate's A Hologram for the King, a low-key Tom Hanks vehicle that barely grossed $4.2 million at the domestic box office and received a minimal footprint at retail, and a couple of TV titles from Warner: Supergirl: The Complete First Season and 11.22.63.
The best challengers for taking over No. 1 on the disc sales chart are a couple of holdovers: Universal's Mother's Day, which debuted at No. 3, and Warner's Batman: The Killing Joke, which debuted at No. 2 overall and No. 1 on the Blu-ray chart.
On the rental chart, Mother's Day is likely to hold onto the top spot for a second week.
