Projections: 'Ghostbusters' Making a Call for Disc Success
17 Oct, 2016 By: John Latchem
Sony Pictures' Ghostbusters remake will try to ride some strong retail momentum to the top spot on the home video sales charts the week ending Oct. 16.
The female-driven update, affixed with the subtitle "Answer the Call" by the studio, earned a shade under $128 million in U.S. theaters, not quite meeting expectations. The project generated considerable notoreity, however, and had a strong retail presence upon its disc debut.
Another newcomer looking to make an impact on the charts include Fox's Ice Age: Collision Course, the fifth "Ice Age" movie that earned about $64 million in U.S. theaters, the lowest tally of the franchise.
Warner's The Legend of Tarzan is also expected to swing into one of the top spots, after earning $126.6 million domestically.
On the rental chart, Universal's Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising is poised to move into the top spot after coming off the studio's holdback from Redbox kiosks a week early. Warner's The Conjuring 2 should move up as well after a standard 28-day holdback.
Ghostbusters has not yet been made available at Redbox.
