Projections: 'Allegiant' Likely to Debut at No. 1
18 Jul, 2016 By: John Latchem
Lionsgate's Allegiant, the third film in the "Divergent" series, is the best bet for a No. 1 home video debut the week ending July 17.
While the teen-centric sci-fi dystopia scored a lackluster $66 million at the domestic box office, about half the total of its predecessor, Allegiant has the advantage of being the biggest new release in which the strongest holdover, Kung Fu Panda 3, has already enjoyed two weeks atop the disc sales charts.
Also looking for a strong debut is Sony Pictures' Miracles From Heaven, a faith-based film that earned $61.7 million domestically.
On the rental chart, Allegiant should debut at No. 1, while Universal's London Has Fallen is coming off a 28-day delay at Redbox kiosks and is expected to move up to No. 2.
