Sony Teams With Snapchat for 'Angry Birds' Olympics Promotion

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has partnered with Snapchat as the exclusive entertainment category partner during the Summer Olympic Games to promote the home video release of The Angry Birds Movie

Specially created content featured in Snapchat’s “Story” alerts viewers to the Digital HD and Blu-ray releases of the film. The Angry Birds Movie was released digitally July 29 and will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Aug. 16.

The promotion runs from Aug. 6-21, the duration of the Summer Olympics in Rio.

“As we are releasing The Angry Birds Movie during the sweet spot of the Summer Olympic Games where we know there will be an increase in live family television viewing, we are driving a 360 cross-channel marketing campaign across television, digital and social.” Lexine Wong, senior EVP of worldwide marketing for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. “We are excited to extend our social campaign into Snapchat as the exclusive entertainment category partner with engaging custom creative aligning with Snapchat’s Olympic Story.”

The exclusive content shows characters from The Angry Birds Movie participating in sports seen at the Olympics, such as trampoline and synchronized swimming. Of the seven “Angry Birds”-themed Snapchat pieces, two can be swiped to show clips from the film’s home video bonus features.
