4K-restoration Blu-ray Disc release coming Nov. 8
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will re-release Oscar-nominated Taxi Driver in select theaters Oct. 16 and 19 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. local times, in advance of the title’s 40th anniversary Blu-ray Disc release Nov. 8.
Winner of the Golden Palm at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival and nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, the film stars Robert De Niro in director Martin Scorsese’s tale of a psychotic New York cabbie driven to violence by loneliness and desperation. The cast includes Jodie Foster, Albert Brooks, Harvey Keitel, Peter Boyle and Cybill Shepherd.
Presented by Fathom Events, these special theatrical screenings will include never-before-released 10 minutes of Q&A with the film’s cast and crew, recorded at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival. In this discussion, exclusive to the Fathom Events screenings, director Martin Scorsese, screenwriter Paul Schrader, producer Michael Phillips, and stars De Niro, Foster, Keitel and Shepherd recall the making and influence of the 1976 film.
The 4K restoration was supervised by Scorsese and cinematographer Michael Chapman. The Blu-ray will feature the 40-minute Q&A from the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival reminiscing on the film.
Other special BD features include interactive script-to-screen; original 1986 commentary with Scorsese and Schrader recorded by The Criterion Collection; producing Taxi Driver; “God’s Lonely Man,” a making-of documentary; the theatrical trailer; filming locations; animated photo galleries; storyboard to film comparisons with Scorsese introduction.
