Bringing Romero’s ‘Dead’ to Life with Color and 3-D29 Dec, 2008 By: Michael Lee
The 1968 George Romero classic Night of The Living Dead is getting put into 3-D and a new color treatment by Legend Films and PassmoreLab.
“Night of the Living Dead is a great cult film and conversion into 3-D is a certain crowd pleaser,” commented Greg Passmore, PassmoreLab’s president. “It is looking really awesome. Legend did a beautiful job on color and the 3-D conversion we are now teaming up to produce is downright zombie-popping.”
The 3-D film will be released by Legend in Europe theatrically and in the United States in a limited theatrical release. It will also be released on DVD and as a downloadable version on Rifftrax.com. The downloadable version also will include commentary by former “Mystery Science Theater 3000” stars Mike Nelson, Bill Corbertt and Kevin Murphy.
“Using the most advanced, proprietary technology, Night of the Living Dead will be the world’s first full-live action feature film to be converted from 2-D to 3-D,” explained Barry Sandrew, Ph.D., Legend Film’s founder and president. “The eight-year relationship between Legend Films and PassmoreLab has evolved into a powerful technology and production partnership poised to capture a significant portion of the burgeoning 3-D conversion market.”
Legend Films specializes in restoring and colorizing classic films for DVD, HDTV and theatrical release. PassmoreLab focuses on 3-D conversion technology.
