If I were in charge at one of the studios, I'd want to stop these because they make it easy for people to get their hands on a disc for the sole purpose of COPYING! If you have a laptop with a dual-layer DVD burner and appropriate software (to get around the additional copy-protection on many new titles) you can rip the DVD in the parking lot and return the disc right afterwards, then burn a copy identical to the original (except you can get rid of the button lockouts- an annoying thing studios shouldn't do if they don't want to make people angry.) When DVDs are reasonably priced there's no reason to do this, however Paramount and Summit should watch out if they're planning on making "Dance Flick" and "Brothers Bloom" rental-only- those WILL be copied, and if that trend continues copying will become a much bigger problem than it is now.

What a ridiculous comment! IF you were at a major studio, you’d know the truth that these vending machine DVD rental thingies are bad for the studios for sure! Ok so that's great...you get a cheap rental today but what is going to happen is the studio system will start to get smaller and only super big studios will dominate and put out the generic crap they put out only to feed these idiot boxes. So keep using the machines and when you are renting the 35th sequel to Air Bud (Air Bud goes to Mt. Rushmore) you will be happy because that's all your mind seems to be able to handle :(
