Lionsgate Hires Wall Street Analyst as Head of Investor Relations16 Mar, 2016 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Longtime Wall Street entertainment analyst James Marsh is joining Lionsgate as head of investor relations, reporting to CFO Jimmy Barge in the studio/distributor’s Santa Monica, Calif.-based headquarters.
Marsh joins Walt Disney Co.’s Lowell Singer and Netflix’s Spencer Wang as former analysts switching to work for companies whose stock they covered.
Marsh will craft Lionsgate’s investor relations strategies, manage its profile at investor conferences, spearhead investor marketing initiatives and direct daily communications with shareholders and analysts.
The hire comes as Lionsgate attempts to find a box office replacement for "The Hunger Games," expand distribution of content internationally, and deal with merger rumors.
Before joining Lionsgate, Marsh was a managing director at Piper Jaffray for eight years, where he headed the equity research team covering media and entertainment stocks, including digital innovation and expansion into the China market. He previously served as a research analyst at SG Cowen, Prudential Securities, UBS Investment Bank and Kidder Peabody. He was also co-founder of Hanover Square Capital Management LLC, an equity fund focused on the consumer and media sectors.
“James is a superstar addition to our team who brings a deep understanding of our company and industry to his position, and he is highly respected by shareholders and analysts alike,” Barge said in a statement. “We believe that he will be an exceptionally effective and articulate spokesman for Lionsgate’s strategy, performance and unique value proposition as we continue to grow our business around the world.”
