Hulu Hires Former Disney Digital Executive3 Mar, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Hulu March 3 announced it hired Tim Connolly to head its distribution business. Connolly most recently was VP of digital video distribution and new product development with The Walt Disney Co.
Disney co-owns Hulu along with 21st Century Fox and Comcast. Since deciding not to sell Hulu (and Hulu Plus) for the second time, Disney & Co. have redoubled their interests expanding Hulu’s trajectory, including pledging $700 million in new funding.
In a blog post, Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins said Connolly would be tasked with growing Hulu’s reach to connected devices. Roughly half of Hulu Plus’ 5 million subscribers stream exclusively on devices, with living room viewing accounting for over half of all content consumption on the service.
“Finding ways to penetrate new distribution channels is key to our future growth,” Hopkins wrote. “Tim’s wealth of experience and passion for Hulu will be instrumental as we continue to grow our subscriber base and roll out Hulu Plus across even more devices and with more distribution partners.”
